Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not random text, but rather has roots in classical Latin literature dating back to 45 BC, making it more than 2,000 years old. Professor Richard McClintock, a professor of Latin at Hampden-Sydney University in Virginia, searched for the origins of a mysterious Latin word in Lorem Ipsum, which is "consectetur." While tracing this word in Latin literature, he discovered the indubitable source. It turns out that the words of Lorem Ipsum come from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of the book De Finibus Bonorum et Malorum by Cicero, which was written in 45 BC. This book is a lengthy scientific treatise on the theory of ethics, and was very popular in the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet.." comes from a line in section 1.20.32 of this book. Sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 from Cicero's On the Extremes of Good and Evil (de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum) are also provided in their original form, accompanied by the English versions translated by H.
